Two-factor authentication (2FA) is an important security feature that adds an extra layer of protection to your accounts. To adhere to Volkswagen Group’s official requirements for unlocking the SFD protection, it's necessary to install 2FA on your phone. This ensures enhanced security and safeguards your data.
To access the SFD-protected customizations in the Carista App, you will be guided through a four-step process, where you will be required to fulfill the necessary steps. This article will demonstrate how to complete step 3: Perform two-factor authentication.
Follow our simple step-by-step guide to set up 2FA on iOS:
Step 1: Unlock an SFD-protected customization
1.1. Once you've plugged in the EVO Аdapter and turned on the ignition, connect the Carista App to it.
Please ensure that you agree to our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.
1.2. Then, select the "Customize" option. When you find a Customization category of your choice, look for a customization tagged as "SFD" and tap on it.
1.3. After selecting an SFD-tagged customization, a message will display at the top of your screen with a link for additional SFD information.
Tap the "Unlock" button under the locked customization to reach the “Unlock customization” screen.
1.4. You will be redirected to the "Unlock customization" screen. Make sure you’ve completed the first two steps (“Get the Carista EVO Adapter” & “Have an active subscription”).
Select the third option "Perform two-factor authentication" to access the "Enable two-factor authentication" screen.
Step 2: Enable two-factor authentication
2.1. Download a two-factor authentication app like Google Authenticator, Authy, Duo Mobile, etc.
Simply select your preferred authentication app and tap the "Get" button.
If you already have a 2FA authenticator, you only need to register the Carista App.
If you have downloaded Google Authenticator, a screen will be displayed with two options; choose "Add a code".
2.2. Return to your Carista App and copy the code it provides. You can easily do this by tapping the "Copy Code" button.
You will need this code to link the Carista App with the authentication app of your choice.
2.3. Open the authentication app you downloaded.
If you're using Google Authenticator, choose "Enter a setup key".
On the next screen, "Enter account details", provide an Account name (1) for the Carista App within the authentication app. Feel free to name it however you prefer or simply go with "Carista App".
2.4. Paste the code copied from the Carista App into the "Your key (2)" section, then tap "Add (3)".
Once you've linked the Carista App with the authentication app, the authentication app will generate a six-digit code every 30-60 seconds depending on the authentication app you have downloaded.
2.5. Go back to the Carista App's "Enable two-factor authentication" screen and tap "Continue".
Step 3: Activate two-factor authentication
After selecting "Continue", you will be directed to the “Activate two-factor authentication” screen.
Now, simply:
3.1. Open the authentication app and copy the 6-digit code generated by it.
3.1. Paste the 6-digit code copied from the authentication app into the placeholders provided on the screen (1).
3.2. Tap the “Done” button (2).
Step 4: Two-factor authentication completed
All set! You've successfully enabled two-factor authentication (2FA), ensuring secure access to unlock SFD features.
Now you can proceed to the final step of the “Unlock customization” process: “Fill in additional account information”.
Oops! Received an "Authentication Failed" message?
If so, it could be due to the following reasons:
- The code you copied from the authentication app didn’t match the one provided in the Carista App's "Activate two-factor authentication" screen (refer to Step 2).
- You've inserted а wrong code into the required field 5 times (refer to Step 2).
Be aware that if there was a gap of more than 30 seconds between copying the 6-digit code and pasting it into the Carista App, the code may have expired. Each code is valid for 30-60 seconds depending on the authentication app.
What to do? Make sure you copy the 6-digit code and paste it into the Carista App within a 30-second time frame. If you've entered a wrong code into the required field 5 times, be patient and wait for 30 minutes before attempting to enter the code again.
Oops! I've lost access to my authentication app and can't generate a new 6-digit code.
Losing access to your authentication app will prevent you from performing two-factor authentication in the Carista App.
